Editing

As Editor-in-Chief, I receive all stories before they are turned in to our advisor. Stories must go through a total of three edits: anyone in that order, the section editor and finally the editor-in-chief. By the time stories get to me, they usually only have minor errors. I try to be as constructive as possible when it comes to editing, while also maintaining a positive attitude. To the right, I have edits made on a story sent through Google Docs.

For more experienced writers, a lot of my edits are grammar reminders. For newer writers, sometimes they tend to struggle with the format. In this particular story shown to the left, the writer did not use the correct quote format. Although I wrote comments throughout the story, I always try to sit down with the writers to tell them one-on-one what they need to fix. When speaking to them, I like to include what they did well and what they could work on. I want my staff to feel comfortable asking me questions about their stories and the best way to create that bond is by being simultaneously friendly and professional.
